Hack Freight

aka The Triples, aka Howell Street

Mile 3.1 ~~ CSX ~~ 973-690-2609 ~~ verticle lift rr

Three bridges, with their eastern ends in Jersey City, are cheek by jowl and are known collectively (and sometimes indiscriminately individually) as "The Triples." The northernmost is the US Routes 1 & 9 highway bridge; the southernmost is the PATH mass transit bridge. The middle, almost hidden from all angles, is a nearly water level (8 ft mlw) freight railroad bridge. It is the one of the three that must be opened for barge passage.

Unlike the other bridge pages, this one shows transits from the south as well as the north.
